It took 2 weeks for them to finalize the electrical inspection and in that time nothing was being done. It really stinks when you don't see any progress happening.
But FINALLY the inspection happened and now there is insulation...HOORAY. Hey, at this point I will take ANY progress and I mean ANY progress. The sheetrock has been delivered so hopefully that will take place soon. In the meantime I have been working on getting our current home ready to sale. My house currently is a disaster with boxes everywhere that are being filled up in between minor home improvement projects. In a few weeks we will be listing it for sale so we want to make it look as nice as possible.
Here are some new pics of the interior of our new home.
I drive by and see the guys working in the house, so I know they are doing something but honestly it all looks the same to me. I am pretty sure they laugh when I drive by and probably think I have nothing better to do. Thank goodness I have never been a person to care what others think or it might bother me HAHA!

The only noticeable progress is that the stone and brick have been delivered and put on our lot! I am dying to see the insulation and sheetrock up soon.....c'mon guys show me something new so I can be happy again LOL.
She truly has a heart of gold. We have NEVER pushed religion on her, this was something she chose on her own. We always felt it was a personal choice. It means so much more when it comes from your heart not because you are told to do it. She is a special girl, no doubt.
I know that she gets just as excited as we do. Since Jason is in the whirlwind of tax season, the girls and I went alone to check the latest status. Luckily, we found a few things that were new. Of course these small things aren't anything fabulous or super exciting but we'll take it! So here are the pics...
LOL. I just keep telling myself that no matter how small the project, it is still PROGRESS. I have also learned throughout this process that I probably won't ever build again due to the fact that I am NOT patient. Good news is that we are soon going to list our home for sale! Here is a pic of the roof installation...don't get too excited! LOL
It was a true realization that this is OUR HOME! Taylor was so happy running up the stairs to her new room, Jason admiring his new media room and of course I loved entering into my new craft space! There is still a lot to go but everyday progress is being made. Sorry for the quality of the pics..it was around 8 last night and we were relying on the flash.
I took Jason over to see the progress since he works during the week and gets home so late due to tax season. We were shocked at the difference one day made! LOOK BELOW....WE HAVE A FRAME! Now it is starting to look like a house.
I waited for what seemed like eternity (actually it was like 4 days) for the crew to pour the foundation.
It wasn't until I left for a mini vacation to Corpus Christi that I got the phone call that the foundation was actually poured. HOORAY for foundation! Jason was nice enough to swing by and take a pic for me because he knew I was so anxious about any updates on the house. Here is the pic he sent.
Despite the ugly blue trash bin, it is still an exciting view for us! Threedivasandadadhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14201447725960559413noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4997152891139491790.post-22570742821352414422014-03-21T20:02:00.002-07:002014-03-21T20:02:37.192-07:00Waiting, Wishing, Wanting
The waiting process of home building is probably my least favorite thing. In my ideal world they would be working on my house everyday, unfortunately this is very unrealistic. I know there are several other houses that are also in the process of being built but why can't they just focus on MINE?!!?? lol. It also doesn't help that I live exactly 7 minutes from our new home and it is way too easy for me to drive by often to "check" on the progress. By now I am pretty sure that the workers recognize my vehicle and laugh when I pass by. Okay, Okay I know I have an obsession but hey we all have our quirks, right? :)
On this day (3-11-14) here is what I saw.....they FINALLY put in the moisture barrier. We are ready for concrete!

This was a pretty sight to see during our first visit to our new lot....PURCHASED! We sure have waited many years to see that sign.

On our next major visit we saw the plumbing added and also the frame for the concrete foundation. All these little things will lead to the final product. So excited that our lot is in a cul de sac! Also you can see that so many homes around ours are also being built. I am sure there are a lot of excited families anxious to move in just as we are!

When we purchased our current home we didn't have an array of options to choose from. The builder basically gave us only two options for every category. With the current home we are building they sent us to a Design Center to pick all of our options. Let me just start off by telling you that no matter what you THINK you might want for your home, all of that will go out the window when you step foot in there. Also don't look at Pinterest like I did because then you fall in love with a million different looks and it is even more confusing. It took me two visits to take a good look at everything and pair up what would compliment each other. Even after I thought I knew what would work, when we had our official selection appointment we changed a few things with the help of a design consultant. Let me state for the record that I am SO glad we are done with that process. Below are the things we selected....
Isn't this home just beautiful!? We wish we could purchase this home with all the furnishings included. How nice would that be? I guess we can't have everything we want. LOL! Threedivasandadadhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14201447725960559413noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4997152891139491790.post-79789378506622647942014-03-10T20:56:00.001-07:002014-03-10T21:13:51.781-07:00Time for a change...Moving into a bigger home was something we have wanted for awhile but unfortunately it just wasn't in the cards. Jason and I both agreed that we wouldn't move until we could get the home we truly wanted and could afford. Our current living situation isn't a bad one but this was always understood to be our "starter home". Another reason we wanted to move was to relocate the kids to a better school... a more well rounded school. We had a specific school in mind which allowed us only a handful of neighborhoods to choose from to find a home. For a couple of weeks we drove around the neighborhoods and took note of what each builder had to offer. Jason sent me into the model homes to narrow down which ones I liked while he was at work (meaning I did the dirty work and he just came in for the final decision LOL). The two builders it came down to was: Ashton Woods or Lennar. When Jason finally came in to pick between the two, he said without hesitation the liked the Lennar Edmonton floor plan. This home was PERFECT for our family. One of the major deciding factors for us was that there are 2 bedrooms downstairs (the master and a second bedroom). Since our special needs child needs to remain downstairs for safety reasons this second bedroom option was totally what she needed. The third bedroom was upstairs separated from the rest of us which would allow our other daughter to have her own privacy. Here is the floorplan and model that ultimately helped us make our decision.
We also purchased the optional media room (which takes the place of the unfinished attic section) which then increased the total house size to 3100 sq ft. The floorplan is amazing and totally practical for our family. This when we called in our friend/realtor Tara Hall with Remax and told her that we were ready to get this show on the road and start building. Let the excitment begin~Threedivasandadadhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14201447725960559413noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4997152891139491790.post-77878140579070080332012-02-02T13:47:00.000-08:002012-02-02T13:47:22.075-08:00It's all about the turquoiseSometimes you find the best inspirations in places you least expect! I found this turquoise picnic utensil organizer at hobby lobby in the new spring section! I was looking orinally looking for some sort of desk top organizer to hold my pens, scissors etc. When I saw the utensil organizer I instantly loved the color and the fact that it had divided sections in it. So today I decided to decorate it in true Arlene fashion. Here is how it came out. I am super happy about it because it is cute and functional! Can't beat putting this whole thing together for less than $6.00
While cleaning my cabinets out I came across a metal sign that used to hang in my kitchen. You see for years I have had this tuscan vibe going on in my kitchen. This year I decided..OUT WITH THE OLD, IN WITH THE NEW! So this means things have been stacking up in my "trash bin".
Okay, back to the sign...where was I? ah, yes! Okay so I decided to take another glance at the things in my "trash bin" one more time to make sure these were things that I could live without. Well while I was crafting this week I realized I needed a new place to gather all my Stickles (glitter glue) in one place. Anyone that knows me, knows that I hoard anything that contains glitter! So right when I was at the thought of purchasing some sort of organizer, I had a GREAT idea! One time I saw someone use a metal sheet with velcro to attach their Stickles. Hey wait!!! I have a metal sheet in my trash bin that would work great! So this is what I ended up doing to my metal sign.

I spray painted the sign to cover up the pears that were on there. The spray paint I used was purchased at hobby lobby. This is the color and name of it.

I had everything to make the stickles holder EXCEPT the velcro! So I went and purchased some velcro tabs and attached one part to the bottle and the other to the actual metal sign. All the embellishements were added with things I already had in my craft room! I was sooooooo happy that for only $3.00 I was able to make this board. From now on, I will have to rethink things in my "trash bin". LOL.
As previously mentioned before I have 4 sisters, with me being the oldest. Over a year ago I made this album with pictures of 2 of my sisters and I. It is by far one of my favorite projects!
Hopefully soon I will be able to create an album with pictures of my other 2 sisters and I.

<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Love is in the air! Valentine's is quickly approaching and I thought it would be nice to set up a little display but it had to be on the cheap. It started with a call from my crafty friend telling me about an awesome find on some christmas ornaments marked down 90%. The ornaments she brought me were red and silver with cute pink buttons painted on them....PERFECT to use for Valentine's and Christmas! The ornaments went perfect as a filler inside my glass dome. I found a cute V-Day printable online for free and used a frame I already had. Throw in some cute candy M&M's in an apothecary jar and you have yourself a cute set up for less than $10!

<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">There are so many different ways to store ribbons and organize them. I find it is best to do it whichever way is easiest and most efficient for you. I am not a super fan of micro-organizing...frankly, I don't have that kinda time or patience. As long as my ribbons are in the same area and not unraveling everywhere, I am happy! When I was shopping at Home Goods one day I came across this zebra print box. This box is originally used to organize things in your drawer. A few days earlier I purchased some ribbon cards to wrap the ribbons around. The ribbons are held down with a glue dot on the end to keep them from unraveling. Because I am such a shopaholic I will have to purchase another box soon because I keep adding more ribbons! LOL. Sshhhhh...don't tell the hubby :)
<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
We spend a lot of time together crafting and talking. For her birthday I wanted to make her something that was different. After searching google for unique ideas I came across CANDLE STAMPING. I purchased 2 candles at 50% off at Hobby Lobby and the rest of the materials were already in my craft room.
<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"> You will love how easy this is and would make for a fabulous gift. Here is the picture of the set I made for my friend. She loved it!
Sad, I know!! LOL. Well I don't know what took me so long because it is beyond AWESOME and super easy!!
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"> When I was in Corpus Christi after Christmas, my sister and I went to World Market to take a looksy. I found this fabulous deal on these hurricane lamps, which are a good size! Each lamp was only $3.00!!! Here is what I turned them into:

<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"> I used the Cricut Cartridge from Teresa Collins called Sophisticate. Using vinyl I cut the frame and chair images out and placed them on the hurricane lamps. They came out sooo darling! I am super excited about filling them with candles and clear stones. With these lamps there are so many possiblities and can be changed up in several ways. The Cricut Cartridge had so many cute designs it was hard to choose! Now that I know how easy vinyl is to use, I will be creating wonderful things with it. Happy Vinyling!Threedivasandadadhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14201447725960559413noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4997152891139491790.post-80634660188930716322011-12-29T20:35:00.001-08:002012-01-18T20:22:05.141-08:00I'm Back<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">After a long struggle with where to take this blog, I have returned. My goal this upcoming year is to blog more and facebook less! Looking forward to it...so get ready!
Threedivasandadadhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14201447725960559413noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4997152891139491790.post-23555434387591671772011-04-24T17:37:00.000-07:002011-04-24T17:39:11.198-07:00What is up with all the hand holding these days?
When I grew up there were no copious amounts of anti-bacterial usage, organic was something for only rich people, cheetos were an acceptable snack and it was ok to play in the rain. It seems these days there is a lot of what I call "hand holding parenting". So much has changed since the days when everything wasn't so politically correct.

Why are parents so overly cautious these days? In my opinion parents are worrying about all the wrong things. Today mothers race to help solve their childrens problems without letting them figure it out on their own. Mothers teach their kids to fear so much, sun, falling down, getting dirty, taking chances etc. People are taking their children to the doctor for every sniffle or cough. Parents are also push kids to do things at an earlier age to compete with other children. Sometimes kids just need to do things at their own pace. For some people having juice in the house is like automatically giving their children diabetes. Children are becoming more clingy due to all the "hand holding" and fearful to do things on their own. Parents are just shaking their head when their child acts out and wants to have therapy sessions over it. They fear that spanking your child on the hand will associate their hand with bad feelings. I am sorry but parents we are not here to be our child's best friend. Also kids are being given things without them being earned just to stay in competition with all the other children.

Don't get me wrong, we are strict about some things in our house such as grades, behavior, manners and daily responsibilities. We do monitor internet activity, cell phone usage and what friends Taylor hangs around. Even with having a special needs child, we try to give her some independence and let her figure things out on her own. Yeah we let our kids eat junk food sometimes, allow them to go outside and play with the water hose and play video games for several hours. We have learned not to sweat the small things. How else will our kids learn if we are constantly "hand holding"? So far it has been working for us. The girls make honor roll, have great manners and are in general very well functioning children.

I think as a society we just need to learn to relax a little and let nature take its course. After all there is much more to worry about than your child drinking a can of soda..............
Threedivasandadadhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14201447725960559413noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4997152891139491790.post-72369506768196489212011-04-21T08:36:00.000-07:002011-04-21T08:36:20.423-07:0030 day challenge Day 5......Favorite Movie of All TimeRain drops on roses, whiskers on kittens, bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens.......
The Sound Of Music is without a doubt my favorite movie of all time. Having watched the movie hundreds of times, buying the soundtrack and watching the play on broadway...I have grown to love it even more. My lifelong dream has always been to meet Julie Andrews (who plays Maria in the movie). I used to fantasize that Julie Andrews would one day be my mother. The songs in the movie, the cinematography and the storyline are just some of the reasons to love this movie. It makes me so happy to know that my children also have a love for this movie, just as I do. One day I hope to actually visit Austria so that I may sing on the hills just as Julie Andrews did.
